On 30 June 2011 the Vocation Training and Accreditation Board (VETAB) which regulated the operation of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) ceased operations and was replaced with a new national regulator – ASQA (the Australian Skills Quality Authority).
At the same time the regulations applying to RTOs changed from the Australian Quality Training Framework standards (AQTFs) to the new standards under the National VET Regulator (NVR) Registered Training Organisation 2011 (SNRs).
We are familiar with the issues arising from the change to a national regulator and the transition from the AQTFs to the SNRs.
We act for a number of Colleges who are RTOs in relation to a wide array of issues. Some of those issues include:
- Initial registration
- Additions to scope
We are able to provide experienced lawyers who understand a negotiated outcome is often more desirable and cost effective then a ‘knock them down in Court ‘ approach – but if we need to fight we will.
One of the issues is that, regardless of the outcome of a dispute, it is important for Colleges to maintain a good working rapport with ASQA. We understand the dynamics of the relationship between a College and the regulator and the importance of maintaining a good relationship with licensing authorities.
